Well, not really. Or at least, I don’t know. The only time I really did the whole, write something every day was during NaNoWriMo. I’ve come to the conclusion that I need to get back into that habit. But I’m setting some ground rules for myself.
- It has to be creative. I do enough web copy or analysis every week that I need to stimulate my creative writing. Not to say that other kinds of writing are bad. But for my purposes, I’m focusing on my creative side.
- It can be anything. It can be something new, old, or even some cliché trashy work. It can be flash fiction, short story or novel (not that my first one is going anywhere anytime soon.) I need to keep my creative juices flowing.
- Keep myself honest. I managed to get writing done almost every day durning NaNoWriMo. If I can make myself set aside even just half an hour for writing, it will be worth it.
- No editing. Well, maybe some editing. More like revising. My NaNo novel is calling my name but I keep ignoring it. Maybe one day a week I will set aside to revising it. So that’s 6 days of new work, 1 day of revising.
Hopefully I can motivate and keep myself disciplined enough to make it through the rest of the year (not that this is a New Year’s resolution or anything, it is February). It’s just a goal end for myself. Maybe I can extend it to forever.
Feel free to join me! It’s going to be hard work, but I know it can only make my writing better.
